SUNRISE ARENA MONTHLY MEETING

January 3, 2006

The meeting was brought to order and Jill Stouard read the bank balance for period ending Nov & Dec 2005

Roll call was taken; Bernie Vela was not in attendance.

Mrs. Lenore Stouard, long time Sunrise member and supporter of the arena passed away in December.   Flowers were sent on behalf of Sunrise Riders.

We will have a meeting in the months of Feb & March 2006 @ 7PM.

The Porta Potty’s were picked up  because the company was  not keeping them  cleaned out  in a  timely manor.  Another company will be used when we get ready to start booking events at the arena again.

The arena is going  to be a  bit difficult to  enter  from  Sloan due  to the  street being  paved  you will  need to  pull  into the  back  lot to unload your horses.   There is another entrance from Madge Lane on the east side of the property.  We may even have to utilize the north entrance of the arena to come in and out of the gate for events just to be safe.

WJRA wants to consider using Sunrise Arena for their shows April 8-9 & Sept 9-10.  The arena will need to be split with panels to run two events at the same time.  WJRA will let us know the dates they want to book by the next meeting in Feb.

Rod Thomas mentioned the use of the water truck and how important it is to double check that the key is actually in the off position so as not run down the battery.  Also if you use the water truck please be sure to replace the fuel you use.

SUNRISE ARENA MONTHLY MEETING

February 7, 2006

The meeting was brought to order and Jill Stouard who read the bank balance for period ending Jan 2006.

Roll call was taken, the Truax Twins were not in attendance, and Carol Ragust had a sick member of her family and was unable to be present for the meeting.

1. The club will be receiving a refund for the deposits on the port-a-potty; Jill Stouard will follow up on that issue.

2. Nevada Power came out and replaced the blown out lights for arena.

3. We can not have speed bumps put up on Sloan but we can have a sign that indicates how fast someone is going to slow down.  It’s doubtful this will help much with the speeders who do go through there.

4. WJRA still has not decided on when they want to use the arena for their rodeo event, they will get back to us in the future about booking the arena.

5. We also discussed the purchased of 10 new locks for the arena with combination style instead of keys so we can save some money on new locks every year.

6 Wednesday night jackpots will be tabled until the next meeting in March to decide if and when to have them.  The biggest problem is getting someone to assist in getting the arena ready and stay to drag between runners.  It’s well known that Sunrise Arena is the best arena in town when it comes to the ground, but it requires a lot of work to make it that way, especially for barrel racing.

7. The subject of moving the arena to another location in town was discussed possibly over near Nellis AFB just northeast of the base.   Rod Thomas stated he could check into that area for us, also it was brought up about making the arena a private club, raising the membership fees and not having anymore events booked here.  The fees need to be raised to cover the monthly running expenses of the facility itself without events to help support the arenas expenses.    It will be difficult to have very large events here with the parking limited and the safety of the children and horses if they park along Sloan Ave.

Next month meeting will be held on March 7, 2006 at 7PM

Meeting was adjourned.

SUNRISE ARENA MONTHLY MEETING

April Meeting 2006

The meeting was brought to order and Jill Stouard read the treasurer’s report and roll call was taken.

There was one excused member not in attendance.

Jill notified the membership that Fuzzy wants to return to Las Vegas again and stay at the arena. The Club decided that they would come up with a list of duties expected of him in order to stay on the grounds.  A vote was taken by the membership to allow him to stay under these conditions.

On the agenda was the discussion regarding starting the Wednesday night Jackpots at Sunrise again.    Rod had mentioned that he knew someone that would come over and work the arena with his tractor for a fee and we need to have it done every couple of months to stay on top of it and prevent the ground from getting so hard.

The dates for the jackpots will be the lst and 3rd Wednesday of each month, with the jackpot to start at 7:30PM and time only’s from 6-7PM.  This will give the tractor driver enough time to prepare the ground for the race.  We will have an open division with an entry fee of $15 and a Jr. Division (10&under) with an entry fee of $12.  Rod Thomas will get the water truck filled and drop a couple of loads before the tractor driver gets to the arena  on the 19th of April and Tom Vela  will prepare the water truck and drop the loads of water on the 3rd of May.

The Treasurer brought up that we did not get our Tax Except status filed in time for 2005-2006 and was going to look deeper into getting the exempt status late fee reversed.  The notice was erroneously sent to an address on Sloan of which we do not have a mailbox.  She will let us know by the next meeting on May 2nd the status.

The power was shut off to the cook shack and everything perishable that was in the refrigerators had gone bad. Rosa cleaned out some of the spoiled food.

Next month meeting will be held on MAY 2, 2006 at 7PM

SUNRISE ARENA MONTHLY MEETING

June 6, 2006

The meeting was brought to order and Jill Stouard read the bank balance for period ending May2006.

Treasurer report was given and roll call taken.

Meeting was brought to order by Jill Stouard, bank report was read and copy given to Rosa Morin.

The Team Roping will start June 9th and 10th, July 7th & 8th and final one in August the 25th & 26th.   Cal Jebson will be leasing the arena for both practice nites and the main event of the team roping will pay the club 10% of his gross.   We decided that the cook shack would need to be operating to encourage more revenue.  Jill Stouard will work  the first event  in June and Kim Thomas  would work the  cook shack  on June  9th  and Jessica Russo  would work it on June 10th.  Cheryl Vela volunteered for July 9th & 10th.  There were some items that need to be fixed in the cook shack such as the cold water from the sink did not work, no water was getting to swamp cooler.    Repair will be done by the first event in order to tolerate the heat and do any kind of food preparation.

Also the  sewer bill was  due  from the last  two months, they had  tried  to  deliver  mail  to our physical address instead of our PO Box. Jill will contact the company.

Since the barrel timer was down for repairs we will table the scheduling of any further jackpots on Wednesday nights until further notice.

It was also decided that we would skip the July meeting and meet again in August.

Meeting was brought to order by Jill Stouard and Treasurer’s report was read.

A new PA system was purchased since the old one has come up missing. We ended up with a better one as it turns out.  Fuzzy has been key in putting together and maintaining the unit along with getting more cord for the microphone.  He also has been taking photos at the events held here at the arena if anyone is interested in seeing them please see Fuzzy at the arena.

New Business was brought up about purchasing a used tractor with the capabilities of dragging the arena properly is will cost about $4-5K . Rod and Mike will be in charge of overseeing the purchase of the tractor.  It will cost about $400 per month from the club till the loan is paid off to Clark County Credit Union.   We are going to have a work day to move the old announcer’s booth to the west side of the arena. It will be mandatory attendance on Jan 6th/7th. We will not be moving the bucking shoots. Dania and Marlon Orellana donated wood trusses for the new project at the arena, they are members of SNGA.    SNGA has voted to use Sunrise Arena again in 2007.  They are scheduled to be held every 3rd Sat. for 10 shows excluding August and December.

We selected new officers, Rod Thomas will be new President and Lisa Carter will be new vice president.  We will not have a meeting in Dec. and will meet back Jan 2nd at 7PM to discuss the plans for the clean up and preparations at Sunrise.
